Exploring Why Infrared Saunas Will Be Your New Place of Serenity

It’s morning. You’ve just finished reading your daily devotional and you have one last sip of coffee to enjoy before heading out. As you reach for your keys, you think back to the state of your health before you started at Eating Elevated. You struggled with headaches, you never slept well, and you often experienced brain fog. Your stress and anxiety levels were through the roof and way more than you could handle.

In our fast-paced world, where stress and toxins surround us, it can be hard to find total wellness. The kind of wellness where you feel balanced, and grounded on a daily basis. The kind of wellness that everyone is reaching for. The kind of wellness that is joyful and stress-free. When our body is not aligned and functioning the way it should, it can be hard to find that place of well-being, and it can be hard to find the peace that surrounds it.

But not at Eating, Elevated.

Walking into your appointment, you feel an overwhelming sense of calm as you check in for your session. The staff at EE are happy to greet you, and you feel comfortable asking any questions you may have. While you wait, you walk around a beautiful, calming space looking at natural and clean personal care products, and supplements. ‘Just Ingredients’, ‘Rowe Casa Organics’, and ‘Standard Process’ are some of EE’s favorite brands. After listening to advice from your NRT practitioner, you’ve recently started on some of these supplements and doing the sauna at least twice a week, and you are loving the benefits it’s produced.

Understanding Infrared Saunas

Before diving into the benefits, let’s briefly talk about the fundamental mechanism of infrared saunas. Unlike traditional saunas, which heat the air around you, infrared saunas use infrared light in heat panels to emit radiant heat directly absorbed by the body. This penetrates the skin more deeply, producing a warming effect from the inside out. Traditional saunas commonly heat between 185 and 195 degrees Fahrenheit and offer superficial heating. They use a heat stove as a heat source and require more power. Infrared saunas heat between 120 and 160 degrees, offer more sweating at lower temperatures, and require less power.

1) Detoxification: Purging Toxins from Within

One of the standout advantages of infrared saunas lies in their ability to facilitate detoxification at a cellular level. As the body heats up, it induces a deep sweat, releasing stored toxins such as heavy metals, chemicals, and environmental pollutants. Detox from this type of sauna is 7 to 10 times greater than a conventional sauna. In a conventional sauna, the average person sweats out 3% toxins and 97% water. With infrared, the average person sweats out 20% toxins and 80% water.

2) Relief from Muscular Tension and Pain

The gentle heat has a profound impact on muscle relaxation and pain relief. It penetrates deep into the muscles, increasing blood flow and oxygenation. This, in turn, helps alleviate tension, reduce muscle soreness, and promote faster recovery for those with chronic pain conditions or athletes seeking enhanced performance. Researchers studying HRP (Heat Responsive Pain) have observed remarkable therapeutic benefits by using continuous low-level heat therapy for treating common problem areas such as lower back and upper body pain.

3) Cardiovascular Health: A Heartwarming Experience

Engaging in regular sessions of infrared sauna has been associated with improvements in cardiovascular health. The heat promotes vasodilation, enhancing blood circulation and reducing blood pressure. The heaters in our saunas were used in a clinical study with the University of Missouri Kansas City in 2005 and were shown to lower blood pressure from a 30-minute sauna session three times a week! Repeated infrared treatment improves impaired blood vessel functions in patients with high blood pressure. This suggests a preventive role for sauna use for arteriosclerosis.

4) Weight Management: Burning Calories with Comfort

For those on a journey to manage their weight, the infrared sauna offers a unique and passive form of calorie expenditure. A 30-minute session can burn between 200-600 calories. As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate. This heat therapy raises core body temperature, causing passive cardiovascular conditioning. Your body’s natural response to infrared heat therapy is to increase circulation and sweat. While it’s not a substitute for regular exercise, it can be a complementary addition to a healthy lifestyle.

5) Skin Rejuvenation: A Radiant Glow from Within

The radiant heat from infrared saunas stimulates collagen production, promoting skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of…yes, you guessed it…fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, the increased blood flow delivers essential nutrients to the skin, resulting in a healthy, radiant complexion. Open wounds can heal quicker with reduced scarring, and it may help with acne, eczema, psoriasis, and burns. Your skin is your largest organ, the sauna allows you to unlock its ability to detoxify by opening up your pores, as opposed to forcing that which is what can cause those skin irritants in the first place. Regular use may also help reduce cellulite that is trapped beneath the skin. This happens with the increased heat of the body’s tissues that help to break down fat cells. The heat will penetrate deep into the body, breaking up those fatty deposits in the connective tissue underneath the skin.

6) Stress Reduction and Improved Sleep: Finding Serenity in the Sauna

Unfortunately, in our hectic lives, stress has become a constant companion. Infrared saunas can provide a sanctuary for relaxation, helping to reduce cortisol levels and promote the release of endorphins - the body’s natural mood enhancers. Not only does this alleviate stress, but it also contributes to improved quality of sleep. The warmth of the sauna creates an environment conducive to restful sleep, making it a valuable tool for those struggling with insomnia or restless nights. Some studies suggest that infrared sauna use can stimulate the body’s production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep-wake cycles.

7) Immune System Boost: Fortifying the Body’s Defenses

Regular use of infrared saunas has been linked to enhanced immune function. The increase in core body temperature prompts the production of white blood cells, strengthening the immune response. This can really be beneficial during cold and flu seasons, providing an extra layer of defense against illnesses. Robyn Openshaw said, “It’s not the exposure to viruses that makes us sick - it’s whether your body’s immune defenses are strong, healthy, and balanced.”

(We totally agree with Robyn)

8) Joint Health: Easing the Aches of Arthritis

Individuals dealing with arthritis or joint pain often find relief in the gentle heat of infrared saunas. The warmth penetrates the joints, promoting flexibility, reducing stiffness, and offering comfort to those with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. You know what they say, those people who move to a warmer state during the winter months always tell you how much better their bodies feel in the warmth!

9) Improved Circulation: Nourishing Every Cell

Infrared saunas induce vasodilation, expanding blood vessels and enhancing circulation. This process ensures that oxygen and nutrients are efficiently delivered to every cell in the body, promoting overall vitality and aiding in the body’s natural healing process. If you think of a garden hose slowly being unknotted, you can picture how much better your garden will look as a whole when everything is flowing as it should.

10) Mental Clarity and Cognitive Function: Sharpening the Mind

The benefits of infrared sauna extend beyond the physical realm, positively impacting mental clarity and cognitive function. The release of endorphins, coupled with the relaxation induced by the sauna, can contribute to improved focus, reduced mental fatigue, and a heightened sense of well-being. By promoting inner stillness and focus, sauna therapy, and mindfulness can help improve mental clarity even long after your session. This can be particularly helpful for those who struggle with racing thoughts or difficulty concentrating. A lot of clients will take this time to journal, read, and/or pray. The sauna is a perfect place for connection and warm conversations with God.

Conclusion:

At Eating Elevated, our mission is to remove what doesn’t belong and to replace what is missing, restoring health and balance to the temples God has given us.

We have a client whose first experience with Eating Elevated was with infrared sauna. She stated the instant relief in inflammation reduction was substantial and she was starting to feel so much better. However, as she continued with the infrared sauna there was a missing piece. She decided to start NRT, and that is what brought her full circle.

Although each client’s experience will be different, the infrared sauna benefits will extend far beyond its comforting warmth and tranquil ambiance. Ranging from detoxification and pain relief to cardiovascular health and mental clarity, regular use can help restore your body to its most natural state of healing and rest.

So, whether you’re looking to enhance your journey with your NRT practitioner, or if you simply want to experience the benefits of our wellness therapeutics, we are here for you.
